Logitech G502 Proteus Core Review

Body, Feel and Look

I have to say if you are used to standard PC mice then the G502 looks like something strait out of a space ship. OK not really but it does have a great higher end appeal to it.

The ergonomic design has a sort of top end look. It makes you feel like you are seeing the type of master craft a Di Vinci or Picaso would put into one of their many art works. To finish it all off the blue led G symbol that is a fine additional touch.

Needless to say I am impressed with how this thing looks and it is somewhat ahead of a lower priced gaming mouse.

I think everyone has agreed that this gaming mouse feels great in the hand. Much of this is attributed to the smooth main body and comfortable side grips. No matter what size hand you have you will be able to click the two main buttons with easy so do not fret.

Switch Up Your Scroll Button

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Gaming Mouse

Logitech calls this option the dual-mode scroll button. This means you have two options to pick through that are used for different tasks. The first mode is like a standard scroll button where it makes the clicking sound and only really moves if you are pushing it with your finger. The second mode pretty much unlocks the wheel and allows you to spin it freely. This is great for scrolling quickly through long bodies or text or large web sites. Pretty nice touch here.

Tune and Balance Your Mouse

Do you even lift bro?! Hah Well either way if you get this mouse it comes complete with its own weight set. No this isn’t so you can get swole with your brahs and look hot for all the babes but rather for a more intricate gaming related function.

The Logitech G502 has a fully customizable weight set that is accessed by removing a cover on the under side of the mouse. You can take them out, put some back in, or leave all the weights in. It all depends on your personal preference.

I have to say if this concept seems foreign to you it isn’t and it is just another small detail that adds to the overall performance of this gaming mouse. This mouse will pair well with any performance gaming PC.

Up to 12,000 DPI?!?!?

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Slant

That is right my friends… 12k DPI… insane!

The thing has a range of 200-12,000 DPI (cursor speed) with an on the fly button that switches between 5 different settings here. You can also go into the Logitech software and manually raise and lower the DPI in increments of 50 DPI.

If you are spending a few extra bucks and want one of the best gaming mice on the market you are looking for this kind of flexibility. I will say that most people will not be using this mouse at the highest setting but more likely somewhere in the middle. Either way its cool to have that potential.

But… are there any downsides?

For me personally I don’t have any negatives about this mouse so I went to the good old internet to see if I could find any from anyone else. Frankly I didn’t find much. Lets put it this way on Amazon there are over 1600 reviews at the time of this writing and out of all those the Logitech G502 still boasts a 4.5 our of 5 star rating. For this many reviews that is basically the highest rating you could possibly get so it would seem everyone loved it.

Warranty and Drivers

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Drivers

One thing that is great to see when you are spending a little extra money for a good gaming mouse is a long warranty. The company is telling you they believe they made a good quality product and fully stand behind it. Logitech has provided a 3-Year Limited Hardware Warranty which fits the bill in this category.

I will include a link to the Logitech G502 Drivers, Software Page and Support here if you do end up getting your own and would like to refer back at a later date.

Final Verdict

I have to say I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mouse quite like this one. It looks very sophisticated and very easy to use. I’m not an avid gamer but I’ve got plenty of friends who are and I know they’d absolutely love this! I don’t think the price is actually that bad. I’ve seen people spend much more on a mouse that didn’t have all the features this one does and, frankly, didn’t look near as awesome 🙂

      Hello jCamden,

Haha you are right I agree the G502 does look very awesome. I know it is one of my personal favorites in terms of both looks and functionality. While I’m not 100% sure it would be worth buying if you aren’t into gaming on the other hand if you use your mouse a lot for whatever reason you are going to want a high quality option. Logitech definitely made a classic with this mouse. Thanks for the input and let me know if you need anything.

I thought that the best gaming mouse would cost a lot more than 60 bucks. It’s a great price for a quality product. I didn’t even notice the scrolling button and now that I try mine I notice that it has that clicking sound. This was a great post, thank you.

      Hi Alex!

Yeah there are a lot of great gaming mice out there. The G502 certainly is an awesome one and right up there with all the best. The price has came down a bit lately too. I’ve hear Logitech is coming out with some new products here soon so that is exciting as well. Keep an eye out and let me know if you need anything at all.

      Thanks,

Hey, this is my mouse! Hah, thanks for the review. Great customer rating and hugely popular it seems. I have been using the Proteus G502 for over a year now and overall I’ve been very satisfied with it. I had to make a bit of an adjustment to my grip compared to my previous mouse, the G500, but the precision and consistency is excellent, especially when used in conjunction with a quality mouse pad. One of my only complaints is that dirt builds up on the thumb grip and in some of the crevices around the buttons and it can be tricky to clean.

    • Anthony

      Hello Paul,

Glad to hear you are using the Logitech G502 and that’s it’s working for you. Computer gear can be hard to clean at times but not impossible! I’ve been using a wide mouse lately and it’s not a good fit. Probably switching to the G502 in the near future.

      Thanks,

      -Anthony

Hey there, this is so cool! I’ve been looking at upgrading my PC mouse and I like this one but it doesn’t appear to have wireless capability. Do you know if the manufacturer makes a wireless version or one that is bluetooth enabled? I really want to get one before these black friday sales are over! Thank you

    • Anthony

      Hello Will,

If you are using your mouse for gaming I recommend using a wired version to cut down on lag and having to lean on a battery. If you need a wireless mouse with Bluetooth and are planning on using it for gener PC use then i’d suggest checking out the Logitech M557 and other comparables. Let me know if I can help in any other way!

      Thanks,

      -Anthony

    Hello Anthony,

    Sweet, my kind of topic!
Logitech is hands-down great brand to go with. I’d recommend it to everyone & not just to gamers. This one looks quite small too & I suspect it fits very well in hand. Those things are designed to be comfortable, don’t you think so?

As a rigorous gamer a ka no-lifer myself my mouse gets some serious beating. I usually eat up 1-2 mouse per year – all the clicking usually gets to mouse no matter how well-made they are. Clicky-click!

Personally, I’d prefer to go with semi-pro gaming mouse. By semi I mean, just like the one here: it has couple side-buttons & nice dpi speeds, but not the whole keyboard setup with million macros that would be a bit overkill for me. But of course, depends on your level & area of expertise, hehe!

Although, speaking of pro-level, I reaaally like Sentey mouses. I found some in Amazon too, with incredible price, but they won’t ship them into the country where I reside.. asfasdf!! Imagine my disappointment. You can help me out on that one & keep an eye out for me, & alert me, if you see any good deals pop somewhere!

But, as for Logitech mouses, you can tell, they’re a little bit pricey. But don’t let that scare you, they’re all quality! Good stuff all the way. They’re very precise & fast, no lag of silly stuff that would annoy you.

Thanks for your review, this place is neat!
    I’ll be back for more!
    Cheers,

    Henry

      Hey there Henry!

I completely agree with you about Logitech as a brand. It’s kind of funny you mention it because I have a tendency to wear my gaming mice out as well when I am playing a lot of video games. It happens haha. Sentey does make some really good equipment as well and I will for sure keep you notified if I find anyone that ships to your country. Just let me know which and ill stay in touch. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and if you need anything at all in the future be sure to drop me another comment.

      Thanks again,

      -Anthony
