Logitech G502 Proteus Core Review, Beastly Optical Gaming Mouse
Today ladies and gentlemen is time to do a Logitech G502 Proteus Core Review! We are going to be looking at a top of the line gaming mouse and all of its features. A lot of people are throwing out there that this is the best optical gaming mouse ever made. I am going to be going through the ins and outs of this mouse to help you figure out whether or not this is worthy of that title and ultimately the biggest question of all. Should you buy it?
Product: Logitech G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse with Fully Customizable Surface, Weight and Balance Tuning (910-004074)
Cheapest Place to Buy: Amazon.com
My Personal Ranking: 95/100
Body, Feel and Look
I have to say if you are used to standard PC mice then the G502 looks like something strait out of a space ship. OK not really but it does have a great higher end appeal to it.
The ergonomic design has a sort of top end look. It makes you feel like you are seeing the type of master craft a Di Vinci or Picaso would put into one of their many art works. To finish it all off the blue led G symbol that is a fine additional touch.
Needless to say I am impressed with how this thing looks and it is somewhat ahead of a lower priced gaming mouse.
I think everyone has agreed that this gaming mouse feels great in the hand. Much of this is attributed to the smooth main body and comfortable side grips. No matter what size hand you have you will be able to click the two main buttons with easy so do not fret.
Switch Up Your Scroll Button
Logitech calls this option the dual-mode scroll button. This means you have two options to pick through that are used for different tasks. The first mode is like a standard scroll button where it makes the clicking sound and only really moves if you are pushing it with your finger. The second mode pretty much unlocks the wheel and allows you to spin it freely. This is great for scrolling quickly through long bodies or text or large web sites. Pretty nice touch here.
Tune and Balance Your Mouse
Do you even lift bro?! Hah Well either way if you get this mouse it comes complete with its own weight set. No this isn’t so you can get swole with your brahs and look hot for all the babes but rather for a more intricate gaming related function.
The Logitech G502 has a fully customizable weight set that is accessed by removing a cover on the under side of the mouse. You can take them out, put some back in, or leave all the weights in. It all depends on your personal preference.
I have to say if this concept seems foreign to you it isn’t and it is just another small detail that adds to the overall performance of this gaming mouse. This mouse will pair well with any performance gaming PC.
Up to 12,000 DPI?!?!?
That is right my friends… 12k DPI… insane!
The thing has a range of 200-12,000 DPI (cursor speed) with an on the fly button that switches between 5 different settings here. You can also go into the Logitech software and manually raise and lower the DPI in increments of 50 DPI.
If you are spending a few extra bucks and want one of the best gaming mice on the market you are looking for this kind of flexibility. I will say that most people will not be using this mouse at the highest setting but more likely somewhere in the middle. Either way its cool to have that potential.
But… are there any downsides?
For me personally I don’t have any negatives about this mouse so I went to the good old internet to see if I could find any from anyone else. Frankly I didn’t find much. Lets put it this way on Amazon there are over 1600 reviews at the time of this writing and out of all those the Logitech G502 still boasts a 4.5 our of 5 star rating. For this many reviews that is basically the highest rating you could possibly get so it would seem everyone loved it.
Warranty and Drivers
One thing that is great to see when you are spending a little extra money for a good gaming mouse is a long warranty. The company is telling you they believe they made a good quality product and fully stand behind it. Logitech has provided a 3-Year Limited Hardware Warranty which fits the bill in this category.
I will include a link to the Logitech G502 Drivers, Software Page and Support here if you do end up getting your own and would like to refer back at a later date.
