Redragon Karura K502 Review, Cheap Gaming Keyboard

What is going on today guys? I am in the mood to do a Redragon Karura K502 Review on this fine day. This baby is a fairly cheap gaming keyboard that can compete in the best keyboard under $50 category.

When you are looking for an inexpensive gaming keyboard you are not looking for the best of the best, but a decent quality unit with a few extra perks is the least they can do. Amirite!?

As I help you decide whether or not you should pick up the K502 we will go through the ins, outs and features of this keyboard. Read the entire review to the end and find out my final verdict.

My Personal Ranking: 89/100

Redragon Karura K502 review

There are actually a lot of keyboards I could put into a list of top five under $50 and a little while back I did a review of the AULA LED Backlit Gaming Keyboard which I think is a top competitor to Redragon’s Karura.

From the price point to the backlighting there are many comparisons to look at so make sure and check out both of them if you are in the market for a new keyboard.

Looks, Build and Feel

This keyboard has a nice look to it with low profile keys. In my experience this type of key design leads to less noise during typing and a great over all feel.

It may be a bit of a change if you are used to tall keys but trust me you will get used to it.

This also makes it harder for crap to fall between the keys and easier to clean overall. Especially true if you have a tendency to eat over your keyboard. Pretty sweet.

With this keyboard you are getting a fairly standard 104 keys but also 12 multimedia keys allowing for awesome control over your music and movie playback. I don’t think I’d buy a keyboard without this feature.

I do see one downside to the build of this keyboard being that there are no extra gaming keys. If you would like to be able to set certain extra keys aside for your keybindings and macros you may be looking for another (and likely more expensive) solution such as this Logitech Gaming Keyboard.

Cheap Gaming Keyboard

Customizable Backlighting

A backlit keyboard comes in very handy if you are a night owl like myself and use your PC at night or in other low light situations. Not only does it light up around your keys but also for each individual letter which is a must for typing and gaming at night. Well… you can get away without it but it is pretty nice to have.

Like the AULA Keyboard I referenced earlier there are many different color options you can easily switch between including red, blue, green, yellow, white, turquoise and purple. That is a lot of choices! You can also change a brightness between 4 different settings. If you are a lights guy check out the Corsair Gaming K95 review I did. That board will blow your mind but it is way out of this price range however, still fun to take a look at.

Extra GemRedragon Karura K502 review

There is actually a button on this keyboard that allows you to lock the windows key. Now I know accidentally pressing this key doesn’t happen a lot especially for the experienced gamer. BUT if you like to get wild with the keys or just want to be extra cautious then I recommend you lock the windows key because if you press it while gaming it will potentially disrupt you at a critical point. I for one am not going to lose a game over an accidental windows button push!

Final Verdict On Redragon Karura K502 Gaming Keyboard

Alright guys I had fun doing this Redragon Karura K502 Review today! I would overall recommend this
gaming keyboard to someone who is starting out with PC games or someone who is on a tight budget. I think there wasn’t a ton of features available with the K502 but the ones it does have such as the low profile keys and 7 setting backlighting were pretty cool.

At $24.99 it is right there in the bang for buck running when compared to other products in its range. If
you were on the fence with this one I say go ahead and get it but before you do i’d probably take a look at my other keyboard reviews as well as the reviews for this product on Amazon. Thanks for reading and I hope I was able to help in some way, that is my ultimate goal!

Here is a pretty good video review I found of this keyboard:

  • Mark

I love gaming and finding great deals on tech products! This is a great review and this keyboard is half the price of other keyboards I’ve seen! This review nailed it on the head, this keyboard is practical, sleek looking in design, but really cool with customizable backlighting! I love how easy to clean it is too! When I buy a new keyboard, this will be the one I will get thanks to this review! I’m curious to know what’s your review on game controllers? Cheers

    • Anthony

      Hi Mark!

The Karura K502 does offer a really good gaming keyboard for the money. However, it seems they are having trouble stocking them in the U.S. at the moment. See this article I wrote about the best gaming keyboards under $50 for some other great options. If you do happen to get a chance to buy the K502 i’d pick it up because they tend to go out of stock often. As far as game controllers goes, I don’t have any articles about that yet and it may take a while before I do. This site is leaning heavy towards the side of PC gaming gear at the moment. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

  • Kalzefir

Thanks for the review, Anthony. I’ve had my current keyboard for a few years now, and I can definitely feel the wear and tear. I like the window-button locking option and price for this keyboard, but I have a question. How are the key’s resistance? I can’t stand it when I don’t know if I’ve hit the key or not – would the low-profile you described cause this? Thanks.

    • Anthony

      Hey Kalz,

Sounds like its maybe time for an upgrade? The key resistances on the k502 are good and you should definitely know when you are hitting the keys via physical and audible response. Of course we cant compare it to the quality of some of the higher end mechanical keyboards in terms of performance. However the price is close to a third of those boards.

      Take it easy my friend,

  • James

I never realized there were keyboards specifically designed for games like this.

I like the fact that it’s low profile keys make it easy to clean.

Does it work on a Mac or just a PC?

Can you use this with the Mame emulator software? I love playing those old school arcade games.

    • Anthony

      Hello James,

Unfortunately this keyboard does not work with Mac only Windows and Linux but it should be fine with Mame as long as your running both things on your PC. Thanks for the comment and let me know if I can help any further.

  • Hi Anthony,

I think this is a great keyboard for anyone who loves gaming and is on a low budget. I definitely like the fact that it has customizable backlighting for the keyboard. Moreover, since I have fat fingers the windows button lock feature is necessary have for me. What are thoughts on the durability of this for gaming ventures?

    Yours Truly,

    • Hi Carlton!

I think it will be durable enough to warrant the price. Of course if you want to spend $100 your going to get a more hardy keyboard. They all wear out over time so it’s all about what you like really. If you need anything just let me know.
