Redragon M601 Review, A Gaming Mouse For The Masses

I know how it is when you are looking at buying new gear, or as I like to call it “leveling up”. There are zillions of options out there and it can be tough knowing when something is a good or bad buy. Now in this case I will assume you are in the market for cheaper budget mouse that is still capable in the gaming arena.

Let us take a look at my Redragon M601 Review today!

Some of the options the Redragon M601 Gaming Mouse have are a 6-ft braided fiber cable, anti-skid scroll wheel, red backlighting, smooth teflon feet, 6 buttons, 8 piece weighted set, and up to 2000 DPI.

The buttons are simple yet effective

Redragon m601 review

On a gaming mouse you certainly want a few extra buttons. But what is the magic number? This Redragon features 6 buttons including the normal two, two on the side, the scroll button and one more on the top located right behind the scroll button. Outside of gaming it is notable to say the side buttons can be used for back and forward while using a web browser.

I know a lot of the more expensive gaming mice out there have buttons all over them. The other thing is that some people may think that only 6 buttons is rather lack luster. My opinion is: It really depends on what you want and what you are using it for.

If you want an MMO mouse and like using tons of extra buttons on your mouse for your macros or keybindings then I would get that this mouse wouldn’t work for you. On the flip side of the coin, if you aren’t using your mouse for 40 man raids and are more of a FPS or MOBA gamer then this would be a great option for you.

At the end of the day I think the 6 button layout is just right.

Weights in a mouse??

I have to say if you haven’t seen weights on a mouse before it may seem a bit weird. I can see where you may have that opinion and know many will not mess around with the weights but think of the Redragon m601 Reviewoptions. It may be worth your time to give it a try. I have also reviewed a top end gaming mouse with this feature called the Logitech G502 Proteus Core. Check that out to compare to this one.

Say you start a new game and want to find your optimal settings. Well now not only can you adjust the settings of sensitivity within the game but you can also take out or add back in weights until you are 100% comfortable.

You may find that you change the weights depending on the game you are playing, how you choose to play a specific game…or… not at all. The choice is yours and yours alone my friend.

Up to 2000 DPI maximum setting

Lets start off by first saying that DPI is a measurement of cursor speed for a mouse. As you would think the higher the number the faster the mouse is allowed to operate at.

I think for $13.99 this budget gaming mouse is priced way more then fairly for a 2000 DPI. Sure some of the expensive mice boast a higher DPI but sometimes you get what you pay for and the Redragon M601 Gaming Mouse is worth the bang for your buck.

I don’t see anyone having any issue at all with the speed of this mouse across pretty much all genre’s. Save for the person who has already reached the very top tanks of the leaderboard in FPS games or is currently competing in CS:GO MLG tournaments. If this is you then you are not looking to buy a budget mouse and have already overspent on a top of the line “pay for the brand name” mouse.

Delve into the looks and feel

Redragon m601 Review

Like I said earlier this mouse has a sweet red backlighting to it. If you already have a red backlit keyboard then this would match it nicely. The brightness of the light is ample and looks awesome in the dark.

Over all design of this model has been executed beautifully in my honest option. The mouse both looks great and feels great in the hand. Of course in the department of looks it is a matter of taste and everyone sees things differently but I think most would agree.

The final thing I would like to talk about in this area would be the plugin cord. I really dig the braided look and think it is a very nice addition to complete the package here.

Concluding thoughts:

Thank you for reading my Redragon M601 Review thus far. As I said in my title, this is a gaming mouse for the masses. At the time of writing this article it is a best seller and has received 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon with over 3000 customer reviews. That is a huge amount and I think should you decide to purchase one of these you may join the other happy customers. Yes the price is inexpensive but I wouldn’t let that make you think this is a “cheap” mouse. As I always like to say: “It is a great bang for buck” item. I know a lot of people may be interested in a wireless version. Check out my review of the Redragon m650 if that is what you are looking for.

Nice review! I was thinking about getting this mouse, but haven’t been able to find out what the different dpi settings are. I know that the highest setting is, but i still haven’t been able to find out what the other settings are. Do you happen to know what the other dpi setting are?

    • Hello Alexander!

I believe the different settings for this mouse are 1000 / 1600 / 2000dpi. I think for the most part the highest speed will do for gaming. You may wish to adjust it down for browsing or other purposes. Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it.

Very informative review of the Redragon M601 mouse. Would I be correct in assuming this is an optical mouse? To be honest, I get a little skeptical when I look into a mouse this unbelievably cheap, but that great average customer rating definitely helps quell my doubts. I’ll keep this bookmarked and consider it when I’m in the market for a new mouse. Thanks!

By the way, I’d just like to let you know that one of your paragraphs is cut mid-sentence in your “The buttons are simple yet effective” section.

    • Anthony

Appreciate the kind words here about my m601 article. It is an optical mouse. I think if you are looking for an inexpensive mouse then this one would be great or i’d recommend this E 3lue gaming mouse as another option. Thank you for letting me know about that paragraph I have edited it.

      Thanks again,

  • Juan

The Redragon M601 Gaming Mouse looks awesome! It seems very affordable and the 3,000 reviews gives the customer a peace of mind knowing that other individuals like me have been pleased with this mouse.

When you mention that it seems great on the hand are you talking about how easy it makes it to navigate? Thank you for sharing.

    • Anthony

      Hi Juan!

Yes the m601 is very popular indeed i’d say mainly because of how cheap it is for what you are getting. I was talking about how it feels in your hand i.e. grip, comfort, usability ect. It’s just a nice little mouse for $13-$14 bucks you can’t really go wrong.

      Thanks again,

    Hi Anthony

Great review on the Redragon m601. My gaming mouse is very old now and when I click on the left button, it tends to double click.

If you are playing a strategy game then you will realize the frustration that comes with it. To pay $14 for this mouse is also not that expensive.

    • Anthony

      What’s up dude?

Sounds like you need a replacement for sure. Oh man it would be near impossible to play a strategy game or actually any for that matter with your left button always double clicking. Thanks for checking out the review and I hope I was able to help. Let me know of you need anything.

  • Franklin

Wow!..what an amazing website and content. A cost of 13.99$ is really cheap and affordable. I am looking forward to purchasing one since i am a frequent gamer and the ordinary mouse kinda is boring. However i would like to know the cons behind Redragon M601 mouse if there are any..Thank you so much for such a wonderful review of the product…good job dude!

    • Anthony

      Hello Franklin,

Haha I hear ya on standard gear being boring. Thats what this is all about man. Just having fun and games! The cons of the Redragon m601 are that while being better then a standard PC mouse it is pretty much one of the bottom line options out there. Meaning it’s more of a starter gaming mouse. Let me know if I can further assist man.

      Thanks agin,

  • Sundar

The review was really good. I was not aware of what a gaming mouse is before seeing your site. Now I am really interested in buying one after reading your review. i love the features it has. Basically i love gaming so i think this will be really worth the money for me. Thanks for the review.

    • Anthony

      Hey Sundar,

Yea if you haven’t used a gaming mouse for gaming then I’d suggest getting one like this to see what they are like. The performance is a lot better then your standard factory included mouse. Thanks for stopping by and hit me up anytime you need.

  • Zed

    Cool Site mate.

Really enjoyed that video and layout was pretty easy to follow.

Smart looking bit of kit , Appealing also because the black and red combination in colours is prob my favourite. lol
Never had the weights in a mouse explained to me before so that was informative.
I liked the point ranking system, which enables a customer to assess its quality.

The video explained some good stuff talking about texture versus price,

Keep up the great work and please checkout my site, i’m just starting up.

    • Anthony

      Hey there Zed,

Thanks for taking the time to check out my review on the Redragon m601. I think if you are looking for a lower budget gaming mouse it should suit your needs pretty well. The red and black are certainly popular as they are with cars and everything really. If you have any more questions about this mouse of any PC related topics just let me know.

Really awesome website, and review. Good job with the overview of the entire design. Dang is it really only 13.99$ I might need one for my Star wars gaming. Wonder how many colors? Coulda check on amazon. You shld get a site icon for up top. Good work on overall site as well.

    • Anthony

      Hey Cody,

This mouse would do great for playing Star Wars Battlefront, which is what I assume you are talking about. Yes it is fairly inexpensive for a gaming mouse but a lot of people who are interested in the Redragon m601 honestly don’t have $75 to spend on a mouse alone. Thanks for the kind words about my site. I am working on it 24/7 it feels like! Let me know if you need anything 🙂

      Thanks again,

    Hi Anthony,
I really appreciate the time and effort it must of taken to make this review! I gotta say I would of loved this Redragon M601 for playing Runescape! You ever play that game? Well It would of been great to have an extra button on the side to enhance my gameplay on the computer. I would be able to fletch my willow long bows x2 as fast with this mouse. Not to mention the feel and grip this mouse has too! All to good for me i’m afraid lol.

    • Anthony

      Hello Billy,

I actually haven’t played runescape but I have heard a lot about it. I think the Redragon M601 would make a great mouse for gaming on runescape. If you are interested in that game your should check out Albion Online. It’s currently in beta right now but should be releasing around March/April. I’m pretty stoked fr that! Thanks for stopping by.

  • TheDopestMatrix

Dude that is awesome! But why so many buttons? Is it like an Xbox controller where you have to play A, B, etc?
Also, how much does something like this run? I don’t play many video games but I feel like I would use this just because it’s badass!

    Thanks for sharing

    Matt TheDopestMatrix
    Look me up

    • Anthony

      hello Matt,

This one is under $15. A lot of times gaming mice will have all these buttons so you can bind them to certain actions within a game. If you have anymore questions just let me know!

      Thanks again,

  • Neale Reimers

Great review of a great budget mouse for gamers. I actually have a very similar one that Redragon makes but it is cordless. It is very responsive and has a nice feel to it. I also like the button placement. Redragon really makes good products and a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend Redragon mice to gamers.

  • Tabby77

It is nice to go on a site and actually learn something about a common everyday product we all use
But today you have taught me about gaming mice.
$13.99 seems like a good price for a such a quality product great review.if you talking about pc gaming I think maybe adding a controller review would be good because I know there are a lot of gamers that use controllers in there pc gaming instead of keyboard and mouse also a how to on how. To setup a controller for pc

    • Anthony

      Heya Tabby!

It is a dang good price for the Redragon m601. Cant really beat it for what ya get. I think I could throw in a controller review here sometime. There are a few controllers that gamers will utilize with their PC from time to time. Not a bad idea! Thanks for the comment and I’m glad I was able to help out.

  • Ankit

Great review, although I am more into playing games on Xbox but when sometimes I use my PC for playing games a gaming mouse is a great accessory. But I really prefer the wireless options which might be out there, would love to see some other options on your site!!

    • Anthony

      Hello Ankit!

Thank you for the comment. I am glad you are into the xbox. I typically play on the PS4 when I console game. I will add some wireless mouse reviews here soon great idea! One inexpensive option would be the Redragon m650 Wireless. Check that out out. If you have anymore questions hit me up anytime.

      Thanks again,

  • Kyle

Guess I’m not a hard core enough gamer to have ever looked into a mouse specific for the application. Regardless, ascetically this mouse is sick. Next time I buy a mouse, this is definitely the one I’m going with. And at $13, that is a steal. Do they have a wireless version by chance?

    • Anthony

      Hey Kyle!

Like yo said you do not need to be into gaming to use this mouse so if you like it i’d say go for it. There is a mouse by the same company that is wireless but it is a bit more basic. It is only $10.99 however. Check it out here: Redragon M650 Wireless . If you have anymore questions just let me know.

      Thanks again,

  • Michel

Wow, have never seen such a fancy mouse. I didn’t even know you got different ones for gaming. I must show my daughter.

I even learnt something new today. I didn’t know that the number of weights in the mouse made a difference to ones personal gaming technique. Sounds like a great option to have.

    • Michel,

If your daughter is into gaming and needs a new affordable mouse the the Redragon M601 would be a good option to start with. If she is more experienced you may want to try a little more expensive version.

      Thanks again,

  • Riaz Shah

    Hey Anthony,
This is a great review on the Red Dragon M601 mouse! $13 is pretty awesome for a gaming mouse, really affordable. I’m using Steel Series Sensei as mouse mouse but lately its been skipping between clicks and its getting annoying.

Like sometimes when I click on something, I have to click twice because it seems like the computer doesn’t pick that up. Does that have anything to do with the mouse itself or is it due to computer problems if you don’t mind me asking?

    • Hello Riaz,

The Steel Series Sensei is a pretty good mouse. Real bummer that it is giving you issues. Unfortunatley it sounds like the issues you are having stem from issues with the actual mouse itself. I think you may be looking at having to replace soon if it keeps bothering you. Take a look at my Redragon M601 Review again and my other mouse reviews you may find a suitable option. If you have anyother questions let me know. Thanks for the comment.
